The company Customer is a supermarket chain based in a medium-sized city in the province of Verona. The company operates a central warehouse where all the goods are stored and then distributed in the various stores. Most of the goods are delivered to the central warehouse by external suppliers. However, the customer had found some problems in the process of supplying of the goods, mainly legacies to the loading and the unloading of the products.
Most of the goods were unloaded directly onto the warehouse floor. This took a long time and risked damaging the products, causing delays and financial losses. In addition, the warehouse did not have a dedicated entrance to the loading and unloading of goods, making it difficult to access trucks and slowing down the delivery process. The company needed a solution to improve the efficiency of the procurement process.
The customer decided to install a loading bay complete with dock leveler and dock shelter to solve problems related to the continuous handling of products in their storage area. The installation was performed over the weekend, so as not to interrupt the normal activities of the warehouse. Loading and unloading of goods had become much faster and more efficient, thus reducing the waiting time of trucks and increasing the handling capacity of food products. In addition, the loading bay has also improved the safety of employees and products. As the loading and unloading of the goods took place within the loading bay, the employees were protected from any risks associated with loading and unloading the goods directly on the warehouse floor.
